Michelin rolls out Disaster Response Unit

June 19, 2006

Michelin North America Inc. and its TCI Tire Center LLC subsidiary have assembled a "tire center on wheels" that would be deployed after natural disasters.

The Michelin Disaster Reponse Unit consists of a 50-plus-foot trailer that contains six air stations for mounting, dismounting, repairing and balancing tires.

"The office area of the trailer has fully functional satellite communications equipment, and sleeps up to six people to ensure 24 hour service in case of an emergency," say Michelin officials.

"When deployed, the Michelin Disaster Response Unit will serve as command central for a specially trained field service crew that will perform on-site tire service from its self contained tire inventory and dispatch tire service vehicles where needed."
