Number of service bays will fall over next four years

March 25, 2008

There will be 13,000 fewer light vehicle service bays by the year 2012, according to the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association's (AAIA) recently published Aftermarket FastForward 2012.

Also according to the report:

* Retail auto parts stores will outnumber traditional jobber outlets.

* Foreign car and light truck aftermarket product growth will double domestic aftermarket product growth.

* Traditional wholesale distributors will decline by 9%.

In addition, the report looks at aftermarket size from 2006 through 2012, differentiated between products, service and major vehicle segments; size of the do-it-for-me and do-it-yourself markets; and other subjects.
