Michelin introduces 'self-regenerating' tread

June 5, 2006

Michelin Retread Technologies Inc. (MRTI) has unveiled "the first self-regenerating tread," the Michelin XDA Hypersipe.

The XDA Hypersipe uses MRTI tread design and siping technology "to mold tread features on both the top and bottom of a precure tread band," according to MRTI officials.

"Sipes molded into the bottom of the tread appear as the tire wears, giving improved worn traction over the life of the retread."

MRTI began developing the XDA Hypersipe -- which will be produced at MRTI's pressing plant in Covington, Ga. -- two years ago.
