Pirelli tires take top prize in race's truck/SUV class

May 18, 2006

Erich Heuschele of Oxford, Mich., drove his 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 with Pirelli Scorpion Zero Assimetricos to the Truck/SUV class championship in the 2006 Tire Rack Cannonball One Lap of America. He also finished 19th overall in the event.

This was the 23rd consecutive year of the event founded by the Brock Yates, long-time Car and Driver magazine contributing editor.

Finishing first overall for the third straight year was the veteran team of Mark DaVia and Drew Wikstrom driving a 2001 Porsche 996 Twin Turbo in the SSGT1 Big Bore class.

The eight-day event started and ended at The Tire Rack’s facility in South Bend, Ind., with a wet and dry skid pad shootout.

In between, the 94 entrants traveled nearly 4,000 miles around the eastern United States and participated in 16 timed events at places such as Autobahn Country Club Joliet and Wisconsin’s Road America.
