The National Private Truck Council (NPTC) recently bestowed its highest individual award on Ron Tartt, general manager of Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire (BFNT) LLC's private fleet.

The Private Fleet Executive of the Year award was presented at the organization's annual conference in Nashville, Tenn. "It's especially gratifying to be recognized for doing a job that I find to be exciting and challenging on a daily basis," says Tartt, who has been general manager of the fleet for the last 12 years.

The award is presented to a person who has demonstrated leadership and service to the private fleet, corporate or business community through innovations, productivity improvements, personnel management gains, technological advancements and other measures of fleet efficiency and management excellence.

"Ron Tartt is one of the most active and productive fleet managers among our members," says Gary Petty, NPTC's CEO and president. "He's a leader in our training and certification program and has involved many of the fleet managers into the certification program."

For the last four years, Tartt has served as chairman of the Institute Board of Governors for the NPTC. He also is vice chairmain/chairman-elect of the NPTC board of directors.

"Under Ron's leadership, BFNT has grown its private fleet from an afterthought to its primary transportation mode," says Nelson Miller, director of logistics.
