March 30, 2006

Nine Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. facilities have earned the Rubber Manufacturers Association's (RMA) Safety and Health Improvement Program award.

"The award is given annually to RMA member companies that achieve dramatic improvements in worker health and safety when compared against the previous year," say Goodyear officials.

Goodyear’s tire retread facility in Stockbridge, Ga., earned an award of excellence, while facilities in the following cities were recognized for safety improvements: Akron, Ohio; Asheboro, N.C.; Danville, Va.; Decatur, Ala.; Marysville, Ohio; Spartanburg, S.C.; Tyler, Texas; and Union City, Tenn.

"Our increased emphasis on safety has resulted in an overall improvement in our safety performance, and particularly in the area of severe injuries that result in associates being unable to perform their jobs," says Mike Porter, Goodyear’s director of global health and safety.
