TIA may piggyback commercial tire event on next year's OTR show

Feb. 24, 2006

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) is exploring the possibility of holding a commercial tire conference in conjunction with next year's OTR Tire Conference.

"We're planning on holding a commercial tire conference in 2007," says Tom Formanek, TIA events chairman. "But (its) format would be different than the World Tire Expo," which was last held in 2005.

"We are aware there are dealers and retreaders who have ties to both the commercial and OTR segments of the industry."

TIA has asked its OTR tire dealer members for their opinions on running two shows together, TIA President Bob Malerba told moderntiredealer.com.

"But no official result has been announced," he says.

Unofficially, "the general consensus I've heard from (the) OTR dealers... is they'd like to not see a combined show."

Recommendations will be made to TIA's board in March.

The 2006 TIA OTR Tire Conference is being held this week near Orlando, Fla.
