MTD Facts Issue: U.S. leads, but look out for Mexico!

Tire plant capacity -- not production -- in North America in 2005 was 387 million tires, according to Modern Tire Dealer's 2006 Facts Issue.

United States capacity was more than 323 million tires, or 83.5% of the total. Canadian tire plant capacity was 43.2 million tires, or 11.2% of the total.

Because of its low-cost manufacturing base and proximity to the U.S., Mexican plant capacity increased in 2005 vs. 2004. That will be a continuing trend over the next few years.

The most in-depth and comprehensive statistics covering every facet of the tire industry can be found in MTD's 40th annual Facts Issue. Check out the issue, or look for the Facts Section on our Web site!
