Company gets a bead on fuel savings

Nov. 13, 2012

Recent tests proved that the use of Counteract Balancing Beads – which balance the complete rotating mass of the tire and wheel assembly -- offers significant fuel savings, the company reports.

Made of a specially coated glass bead that will not break down or degrade, the company’s balancing beads are placed directly into a tire where they are free to move and adjust to balance imperfections as they develop, automatically balancing the complete wheel assembly, says the company. Counteract Balancing Beads are installed easily by dropping a pre-measured package into the tire cavity before mounting or injecting the beads through the tire valve stem.

FP-Performance Innovations Technology (PIT) in Quebec, which works with the Canadian government, utilizes an SAE J1321/TMC Type II Fuel Consumption procedure to assist transport companies in identifying technologies that help improve the energy performance of vehicles.

Early this summer, PIT ran such a test on Counteract Balancing Beads. The results showed a 1.6% fuel economy improvement.

Counteract’s  technology was previously tested by P.A.V.E. at Auburn University using the same SAE/TMC-approved procedure, and resulted in a 2.2% fuel economy improvement.
