Indian tire manufacturer enters OTR market

March 5, 2008

Indian tire manufacturer Apollo Tyres Ltd. has begun construction on its first OTR tire plant, which will build 25-inch through 57-inch tires.

The factory -- which will be based in Limda, India -- is expected to be fully functional within the next 15 months. It will have an initial capacity of 10 tons a day and will increase to 60 tons a day within the next three years.

"We will begin production with the convenient cross-ply tires, which are used in India," says Onkar Kanwar, Apollo Tyres' chairman.

"Over the next two years, we will manufacture radial OTR tires, which are currently not produced in India."

Kanwar adds that "various earthmover equipment manufacturers have shown eagerness to get into agreements with us that allow them exclusive access to our OTR production."
