Hercules gets ready for winter with 3 new tires

Hercules Tire & Rubber Co. has added three tires to its 2012-2013 winter tire program. Two are Hercules tires; one is an Ironman tire line.

The Hercules HSI-L and Hercules HSI-S and are designed for driving in severe winter conditions. They are formulated with an advanced silica compound for "excellent traction and grip in icy conditions," according to the company.

Here are some features for each tire.

1. Hercules HSI-L. The tire offers a directional tread design with deep grooves and intricate siping, providing excellent traction, water drainage and snow removal. it is available in 10 V- and H-rated passenger tire sizes ranging from 16 through 18 inches, and two 8-ply commercial sizes.

2. Hercules HSI-S. The studdable winter tire features a directional tread pattern with a bold center rib and heavy siping to improve steering response, as well as wide lateral grooves to provide excellent grip and channel away slush. The HSI-S is available in 13 passenger sizes ranging from 14 through 17 inches.

The Ironman Polar Trax is designed for superior winter performance, according to Hercules. It is studdable, with a directional tread design and high silica compound for sure-footed winter traction.

The Polar Trax is available in 22 sizes, ranging from 13 through 17 inches, for passenger car, SUV and commercial vehicle fitments.
