Kumho will develop tire for Porsche 911 GT3

Feb. 28, 2008

Kumho Tire U.S.A. Inc. will develop tires for VICI Racing and its Porsche 911 GT3 RSR that will race in the American LeMans Series (ALMS) during 2008. "At the heart of the partnership (between Kumho and VICI) will be an innovative tire development program designed specifically for the Porsche RSR and the ALMS GT2 class championship," say Kumho officials.

"This will be a very tough development project, undertaken right from the start through a full racing program," says Ron Meixner, president of VICI Racing.

Kumho has been involved in ALMS for the last three years, supplying tires to a variety of teams.

Last year, Kumho supplied tires for a "one-off effort" for the Woodhouse Performance Dodge Viper.

"The Viper was a great test for us," says Kumho Motorsports Manager Rudy Consolacion. "GT2 cars are harder on tires because they're heavier than the prototype cars and don't make as much downforce. We are eager to work closely with Porsche and VICI to develop a winning tire."
