Is Firestone more than rubber on the road?

A new ad campaign by Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations LLC is playing up the importance of Firestone tires to the vehicles on which they are mounted.

They are so intertwined with the performance of the vehicle that Bridgestone is describing Firestone as a car company. That may not be so farfetched; after all, is a car truly a car before the rubber meets the road?
