Goodyear rolls out new truck tire with DuraSeal

Feb. 21, 2008

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has adapted its self-sealing DuraSeal technology for broader use on line-haul trucks, including Goodyear's latest medium truck tire, the Unisteel G316 LHT.

The Unisteel G316 LHT, a line-haul trailer tire, "allows semi-trucks to continue operating after a tire is punctured by road debris up to 1/4-inch diameter in the repairable tread area," say Goodyear officials.

The new tire was introduced earlier today, Feb. 1, to U.S. and Canadian tire dealers during Goodyear's annual dealer conference in Dallas, Texas.

"The new tire expands our premium product line in the biggest segment of trucking: long-haul," says Steve McClellan, vice president of Goodyear commercial tire systems.

Nearly half of all commercial tires sold are for long-haul, according to Goodyear estimates.

"Self-sealing technology in trailer tires is relevant, since maintaining the inner tire of a dual-tire setup is difficult."

The new tire features an all-steel four-belt package, helping to provide a solid foundation for multiple retreads, according to Tim Richards, project manager for line-haul tires.
