Why 3,000-mile oil changes could cost you millions of dollars

Do you recommend that your customers change their oil every 3,000 miles? Does that contradict what most of the vehicle manuals suggest?

If it does, you may be open to a lawsuit in the future. And based on a lawsuit that has been filed in California, the damages to you could be in the millions of dollars.

That lawsuit, according to the "Lube Report," charges Jiffy Lube International Inc. with "false and misleading advertising and unfair competitive practices" because it recommends oil changes every 3,000 miles when vehicle manufacturers recommend a much longer interval.
