Pugh’s Tire founder George Pugh dies

George Pugh, founder of Pugh’s Tire Service, Greenville, N.C., and 2012 North Carolina Tire Dealers Association (NCTDA) Hall of Fame recipient, died July 5 at the age of 89.

He started Pugh’s Tire Service in 1945 and grew it to five retail locations, one auto parts store and one central warehouse. Pugh was well-respected by numerous business-people who knew him, in addition to his many personal friends across the State of North Carolina.

He will be succeeded in business by several family members who are currently hands-on in the day-to-day business operations, including son Sammy.
