Banquet for Ed Cohn starts with a roast and ends with a toast

Feb. 15, 2008

Ed Cohn, longtime executive director of the California Tire Dealers Association-South (CTDA-S), was roasted in grand style by his peers at a special association luncheon, recently.

The tone of the event, underwritten by Billy Eordekian of 1-800EveryRim.com, began with the invitation to the banquet: "You are invited to the last and only Eddie Cohn 'Like a Million Other Guys' Roast. Learn how Eddie quickly rose through the ranks to become the most average tire dealer in America!"

Cohn, former owner of Cohn Tire Service in Los Angeles, became an executive director of the CTDA-S because, as Eordekian said, "Those who can't do, teach!"

On a serious note, Eordekian praised industry associations such as the Specialty Equipment Market Association, Tire Industry Association and all of the state-level tire dealer associations as being vital to business success... "especially for the independent tire dealer."

He concluded his remarks with a toast: "to Ed Cohn, champion of the independent tire dealer."

Among the attendees honoring Cohn for his contribution to the tire industry were Paul Bobzin, Firestone dealer and past president of the former National Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association (NTDRA); Don Farquhar, former Goodyear dealer and past member of the NTDRA executive board; CTDA-S President Sergio Rivera; and tire industry veteran Jay Goldberg.

Bridgestone/Firestone tire dealer Bill Short of Leininger & Short Tire Service in Ontario, Calif., made a generous donation to CTDA-S during the event.
