Why tariffs on Chinese tires don't help us

June 7, 2012

Less than four months from now, the 25% tariff imposed on Chinese consumer tires will disappear. Or will it?

Some, like Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich, think the tariff will remain in some form. Others, like tire industry analyst Saul Ludwig, don't agree.

We will find out soon enough. But should the tariff be continued? A recent blog by Mark Perry of DailyMarkets.com analyzes why the answer should be no.

Is protectionism in this case bad for our industry -- or our country? To find out, read Ulrich's latest blog, "Will Chinese tire tariffs come off? Should they? Here's a new take on the issue."

The points are at the very least interesting and at the very most controversial. Do you think the 25% tariff will come off? Do you think it should? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment!
