Chet Simpson joins LITDA Hall of Fame

March 21, 2012

The Louisiana Independent Tire Dealers Association (LITDA) recently inducted Chet Simpson into its Hall of Fame. Simpson is owner and president of Simpson’s Service Center Inc. in Baton Rouge, La.

Simpson’s Service Center was founded by Chet’s father, Elvin, in the early 1950’s. Chet’s dad was the manager at the downtown Firestone Tire store, which offered tires and complete automotive service.

Chet worked with his dad during high school on Saturdays washing and servicing the
company’s fleet car business. After graduation in 1971, Chet continued working at the business while attending Louisiana State University.

Originally, Chet’s career plans did not include the automotive service business. However, he enjoyed his work, and saw opportunities for growth as he learned the business from his father.

Simpson’s moved into a new facility just one block from its original location on North Blvd. in 1984. At that time, Chet became the owner-president, with his dad taking on a lesser role in the daily operations of the business. Simpson’s became a Goodyear tire dealer in October of 1991; nine years later, it moved into the present 25,000-square-foot building on Florida Blvd. in downtown Baton Rouge -- in the same block as the original 1950’s store.

Chet is an active member of many professional organizations, including the Automotive Service Association and the LITDA. He has served as not only as president of both associations, but also in office and board member positions.

"Chet has worked tirelessly with these groups to improve the business climate and reputation of his profession," says the LITDA.

The East Baton Rouge Lions Club, Mid-City Redevelopment Board and the St. Jude Bass Tournament are a few of the civic organizations to which Chet actively donates his time and resources. He has served twice as the EBR Lions Club president and twice had the distinct honor of being named “Lion of the Year” by his club. He also has been presented with the Lions International Melvin Jones Award.

Chet has been married to Gay Gautreau Simpson for nearly 39 years. They have two daughters and three grandchildren.

Each year, the LITDA Hall of Fame honors those individuals who play a significant role in the growth and development of the tire industry and the association. Hall of Fame members are recognized for their success, as well as public service for the community.
