Pirelli or Goodyear? Check it out in Geneva

March 6, 2012

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and Pirelli & Cie SpA plan to make big impressions at the 82nd Geneva International Motor Show.

The show will open to the public on Thursday, March 8, 2012, in Geneva, Switzerland.

Goodyear technology

Goodyear will be showcasing its innovative technology, beginning with its Air Maintenance Technology. The self-inflating tire system that can help reduce fuel consumption.

“Consumers often overlook the importance of maintaining proper tire pressure,” says Jean-Claude Kihn, Goodyear's senior vice president and chief technical officer. “We believe this technology will have immediate positive impact for drivers in terms of performance and for the environment through improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions and extended tire life."

Additional new technologies on display include the company’s Electric Vehicle Tire Technology, developed for CityHush, a European Union-sponsored project to reduce noise in cities throughout Europe; Spring Tire, an airless tire designed originally for use on the moon; and a concept tire featuring BioIsoprene,a revolutionary bio-based alternative for petroleum-derived isoprene the company says will help reduce the tire industry’s dependence on oil-derived products.

The company also will exhibit its new 2012 products for Europe: the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT and Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV.

Pirelli tires

Pirelli's latest technology will be featured not only in its booth, but also on vehicles throughout the show: The Ferrari F-12 Berlinetta, Aston Martin Zagato and Bentley V8 will all be fitted with P Zero tires.

Pirelli’s premium products on display will include:

* P Zero Silver. Designed for high-end sedans and coupes, the P Zero Silver is the latest addition to the P Zero family. The first in a series of specialized Pirelli tires "that ensure the highest performance levels," the tire shares the same kind of technology used in Formula One tires. It will be available in 11 sizes beginning April 2012.

* Cinturato P1. Developed by Pirelli for small and mid-sized cars, it is a tire that brings high performance to sustainable mobility. It is the latest in the Cinturato family and embodies the same ecological features of all Cinturato tires as well as UHP technology.

* Scorpion Verde. The first ecological and high performance tire designed by Pirelli for cars with high environmental impact: SUVs and latest generation crossovers, the Verde "combines the high performance technology of the P Zero family with the ecological approach of the Cinturato family, which ensures reduction of wear and noise."

Pirelli's latest winter tire, the Winter Snowcontrol Serie 3, also will be on display at the Pirelli booth. Designed for small and mid-sized cars, it offers low environmental impact and lower fuel consumption without sacrificing safety and comfort. It also "ensures traction on snow and ice, and improved grip in dry conditions."
