Avon confirmed as sole supplier to Euro and Dutch GT4 series

Feb. 22, 2012

Avon Tyres, a brand manufactured by Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe Ltd, will be the official tyre supplier to the European GT4 Cup and Dutch GT4 Championship, in a deal set to last for the next three years.

The European GT4 Cup is run by the Stephane Ratel Organisation (SRO), which is also the organiser and promoter for the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, for which the brand has been the title sponsor since 2006. The Dutch GT4 Championship is managed by Exploitatie Circuit Park Zandvoort with technical assistance from SRO.

The deal means that Avon Tyres will act as sole tyre supplier to all three championships until the end of 2014.

The European series has been the strongest class of the racing category since it was created and the class is also the highest form of GT racing in the Netherlands.

The 2012 Dutch championship will begin with four rounds shared between Zandvoort and Zolder, while the European Cup begins with three rounds at Paul Ricard, Dijon and Franciacorta. Both championships end their seasons with joint events at the Slovakiaring, Spa-Francorchamps and Zandvoort.

Avon Tyres Motorsport General Manager, Paul Coates, said, “There has been steady and relentless development of our GT products since their first introduction in the British GT Championship in 2006 and our reputation in GT racing has been growing ever since. Our GT tyres are now the product of choice for many top teams in open competition situations and we are justifiably proud of the level of performance that we have achieved.

“This new partnership, as well as being sole tyre supplier to the recent Gulf 12 Hours, shows that Avon is now seen as a world class supplier of GT tyres and clearly indicates our intentions to increase our involvement in international GT racing for the future.”
