Terry’s Tire Town opens new distribution center

Feb. 15, 2012

Terry’s Tire Town based in Alliance, Ohio, is opening a 135,000-square-foot distribution center in East Taunton, Mass., to replace a smaller, leased facility in Brockton, Mass.

The new distribution center “draws on multiple technologies to elevate warehousing to a new optimum for customer service, employee safety and efficiency,” the company says.

“Our whole team is excited to transition into such a state-of-the-art distribution center,’’ says Dominick Wycoff, regional vice president for the Northeast. “The expansion allows increased tire inventory, the addition of new product lines and brands, and state-of-the-art customer service capabilities through new computer and phone systems.”

Within the warehouse, electronic pickers glide on a wire system.  Inventory replenishes through an automated system that restocks products based on customer demand.

“We have combined the best practices of our entire company into this facility,’’ says Jon Garrity, vice president of supply chain.  “These technologies and business processes will provide our customers with an exceptional product offering and delivery service. We have implemented new technologies and business processes to support our historical commitment to customer satisfaction.”

The East Taunton expansion follows a series of acquisitions resulting from a strategic partnership in November 2010 between Terry’s Tire Town CEO Will Tolerton, of the company’s founding family, and Talisman Capital Partners.

In February 2011, Terry’s Tire Town acquired the tire wholesaler Summit of New England, with Brockton among its facilities in addition to distribution centers in Nashua, N.H., and Westbrook, Maine. Since then, the Nashua facility more than doubled in size to nearly 64,000 square feet.

In November 2011, Terry’s Tire Town acquired Englewood Tire Wholesale’s five East Coast distribution centers in Happauge, N.Y.; Lyndhurst, N.J.; East Hartford, Conn.; West Deptford, N.J.; and West Middlesex, N.J. That move also allowed Terry’s Tire Town to expand the reach and scope of its associate dealer programs in multiple brands.

Terry’s Tire Town now stocks more than one million tires on an average day in all sizes and brands in 11 state-of-the-art warehouses across the eastern and midwestern United States. It is part of the American Car Care Centers (ACCC) and Eco Express programs in 12 states.
