Global Rubber Industries Pvt. Ltd. (GRI) says the second phase expansion of its plant in Sri Lanka is "progressing well," despite current, COVID-19 lockdowns in that country.

The expansion, which started this past January, represents an investment of $100 million and will boost GRI's current production capacity to 750,000 tires per year, "with a total capacity of 100 tons per day."

Ananda Caldera, GRI's executive director, says the company "will be doubling the extent of our production facility. The total area will be 220,000 square feet. We hope to complete construction by October of this year and by December, we will have installed capacity of 50 tons per day.

In 2018, GRI opened a plant in Sri Lanka that produces radial ag tires. Two years later, the company began building a large mixing facility for tire compounds.
