Nokian's Dayton, Tenn., plant recently received the Tennessee Governor's Environmental Stewardship Award for Sustainable Performance.

Nokian Tyres plc's plant in Dayton, Tenn., has received the Tennessee Governor's Environmental Stewardship Award for Sustainable Performance.

The honor is the "most prestigious environmental and conservation award in the state," says a Nokian spokesman.

"We are the first winner from Rhea County, Tenn., in the 35-year history of the program."

Earlier this year, Nokian said it plans to build as many as one million tires at the plant each year.

Production at the consumer tire plant started in early-2020. According to MTD research, it has the capacity to produce nearly 3,000 tires per day.
