Bridgestone Corp. achieved a 503% year-over-year operating profit increase during 2021, plus a 20.4% year-over-year revenue gain.

Referring to the company's tire business, Bridgestone officials say that demand for original equipment tires was impacted by "automotive production cuts due to the semiconductor shortage from the third quarter onward, but demand for replacement tires remained firm."

In the Americas, Bridgestone enjoyed a 74% operating profit increase, plus a 25% sales increase.

"Unit sales of tires for passenger cars and light trucks in North America trended strongly, surpassing the unit sales in fiscal 2020."

Meanwhile, truck and bus tire sales "substantially increased" versus 2020 levels.
