Giti Sponsors Math and Science Contest

April 4, 2022

Giti Tire (USA) Ltd. is on a mission to inspire the next generation of engineers and manufacturers in the schools that surround its U.S. tire plant, and the company recently hosted its fourth Math and Science Competition.

Students in Chester County, S.C. can participate in Giti Math & Science clubs in their schools, and then present projects for the competition. The contest has divisions for elementary, middle and high school students. And each division has its own project.

Elementary school students were asked to use a 3D printer to create a mini car powered by the energy of a mousetrap. Middle school teams designed a 3D-printed tower that could bear a load of 2.5 pounds. High school students created a 3D-printed bridge, which was tested for the highest structural efficiency at its breaking point.

After a two-year hiatus caused by COVID-19, the competition was held March 29-30, 2022, and winners were honored at an awards ceremony on March 31.

The winners are:

  • Elementary division: Chester Park School of Inquiry
  • Middle school division: Great Falls Middle School
  • High school division: Chester High School
