USTMA Predicts 'Record Year' for Tire Shipments

Aug. 1, 2022

The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) projects that passenger, light truck and medium truck tire shipments in the United States will total 342.1 million units this year.

That's a 2.1% jump from the total passenger, light truck and medium truck tire shipments the association reported last year - both replacement and original equipment.

The USTMA believes that 39.2 million original equipment passenger tire units, 5.9 million OE light truck tire units and 6.4 million OE truck tire units will be shipped in the U.S. this year. This will represent an increase of 4.8%, 4.8% and 7.8%, respectively.

In the replacement channel, the association predicts that 226.8 million passenger tire units will be shipped, a 0.9% increase over 2021 levels. It also believes that 39.5 million replacement light truck tires will be shipped, a 2.3% increase from last year, and 24.3 million replacement truck tire units will be shipped, a 6.5% jump from 2021.
