Michelin North America Inc. has launched the Michelin Defender 2 tire for CUVs passenger cars. The tire comes with an 80,000-mile warranty and extends the Defender line into 19-inch and 20-inch rim sizes.
The Defender 2 is designed to handle the extra weight and torque of small SUVs, minivans and electric vehicles.
“As the market evolves toward electrification and small SUVs, we continue to strengthen our leadership in longevity and performance,” says Pierluigi Cumo, senior director, Michelin brand and retail marketing.
“With significant market coverage in sizing, the Defender 2 will be a welcome addition for dealers and consumers.”
The tire’s rolling launch - in 47 sizes - will last through 2023, with additional SUV sizes to be added. The Defender 2 holds an H-speed rating and covers 60% of the market, according to Michelin officials.
