Tire Industry Hall of Fame Spotlight: Larry Day

Nov. 1, 2022

New Tire Industry Hall of Fame inductee Larry Day played a key role in the growth of both TBC Corp. and Monro Muffler & Brake.

Day, who passed away in 2021, spent most of his career in the tire industry and worked for several companies before moving into senior leadership roles at Monro and later TBC, where he served as president, CEO and chairman.

He retired from TBC in 2014.

While at Monro, Day instituted an aggressive campaign to double the company’s number of retail stores.

“He re-engineered the firm from a national distribution company to a fully integrated tire marketer,” according to a statement from the Tire Industry Association, which hosted the Tire Industry Hall of Fame inductions on Oct. 31.

Under Day’s direction, TBC acquired Midas International; integrated more than 225 National Tire & Battery stores in 2004; and acquired Merchant’s Tire in 2003; among other notable achievements.

"Those of us who were fortunate enough to work with Larry at TBC will always remember him as a true leader and a person who had the ability to inspire us all," said then-TBC President and CEO Erik Olsen, after Day died.

"He was kind, knowledgeable, hard-working, supportive, generous and an all-around great person.

“He worked tirelessly to lead TBC throughout the years and continued to serve as a mentor to many of us throughout his retirement.”
