Tire Dealers Make Forbes List of Largest Private Companies

Sept. 13, 2016

Two giants in the tire industry rank among the 100 largest private companies in America, according to the latest list published by Forbes.

Discount Tire is No. 99 on the list. The company jumped 10 spots this year, and has landed among the top 100 companies in the country for the first time, it says. The America's Largest Private Companies list by Forbes ranks companies by annual revenue, and the magazine says Discount Tire rang up $4.2 billion in sales and employs 17,955 people.

In a press release Discount Tire says its "commitment to customers" helped it rise to the top 100.

Discount Tire currently operates more than 925 stores across the United States and has a firm hold of the top spot of the Modern Tire Dealer 100. Its owner and chairman Bruce Halle was MTD's 2014 Tire Dealer of the Year.

But Discount Tire isn't the only tire giant on the list. American Tire Distributors Holdings is ranked No. 84, with $4.8 billion in sales and 4,700 employees.
