Love’s Donates $25,000 to Help with Louisiana Flooding Relief Efforts

Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores has given $25,000 to The Salvation Army to be used toward relief and recovery efforts for those affected by recent flooding along the Louisiana Gulf Coast region.

Some of Love’s 390 locations are in Louisiana, including the harder hit areas of Port Allen (near Baton Rouge) and Duson (near Lafayette). Port Allen received upwards of two feet of rain over the course of three days. Interstate 12 was closed briefly, and as of Tuesday morning, Interstate 10 near Duson was still closed. At one point, Love's 523 in Duson was under curfew.

Some of the company’s employees have been severely impacted. Two Love's employees lost their homes; one lost a vehicle to the flooding, and two more have been displaced and can't return home yet. It is unknown to what extent their property has been damaged.

“Our hearts go out to those affected by the devastating floods in Louisiana,” says Love's Vice President of Communications Jenny Love Meyer. “Our customers, employees and communities mean the world to us, and they have all been impacted significantly by this disaster. We're honored to be able to help in the relief and recovery efforts along the Gulf Coast."

Canteens from The Salvation Army are going out each day in affected communities to help anyone who needs a hot meal, something to drink or somebody to talk to. The Salvation Army has prepared more than 78,000 meals, 87,700 drinks, 15,600 snacks, 9,300 food boxes, 8,100 clean-up kits and 8,000 comfort kits for those in need so far.

"At The Salvation Army, we believe it takes an army of generous, loving people to help their neighbor in a time of need,´ says Maj. Roy Johnson, general secretary for The Salvation Army's Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi Division. “It takes individuals, it takes families, and it takes corporations like Love's to stand together with The Salvation Army so we are 'Doing The Most Good' for those who really need it. We truly appreciate Love's and all its employees for the generous donation to help the relief effort."
