Hankook Tire driver Chris Forsberg notched his first podium finish of the 2016 Formula Drift season this weekend, finishing in third place at Formula Drift, Road Atlanta.
The second race of the season also resulted in a top 10 finish for Hankook Tire driver Forrest Wang.
Competition was slick from the start of the racing weekend which saw varied track and weather conditions including rain on Thursday and bright sun on Saturday. Forsberg, racing with his Hankook Tire Nissan 370z, charged into the weekend with consistent runs early on placing him in 4th place going into the Round of 32. After continued success in the Round of 16, Forsberg found himself in a semifinal battle against Vaughn Gitten Jr. who edged out the former Formula Drift Champion for second place.
“Road Atlanta is one of my favorite tracks, and we've been able to finish on the podium consistently over the years since I started racing here in 2004,” said Forsberg. “The Hankook Ventus R-S3 tires performed strong in the varied weather conditions this weekend and as the track got tighter on Saturday.”
All of Hankook’s Formula Drift drivers race on Hankook’s Ventus RS-3 Extreme Performance tires. The Ventus R-S3 is designed for serious sports car, sports coupe and performance sedan enthusiasts looking for race tire-like traction on the street or for use in autocross, drifting or track events.
“Chris was strong all weekend in Road Atlanta, and I was confident he was going to be a contender for the podium based on his smooth runs and great qualifying effort which placed him 4th going into the Round of 32,” said Donato Bonacquisto, Hankook Motorsports Marketing Manager. “This was a great finish for us, and we are looking forward to progressively gaining on the competition as we head into Round 3 in Orlando.”
Formula Drift heads to Orlando Speedway in Orlando, Florida on June 3rd and 4th for round three of the 2016 season.
