Fountain Tire buys Winnipeg's Chorney Tire

June 19, 2002

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-based Fountain Tire Corp., one of North America's largest independent tire store chains, has purchased Winnipeg's Chorney Tire.

Chorney Tire started as a single store in 1989 and now has five locations. It was a Goodyear Select retailer, exclusively selling Goodyear products. Goodyear is a partner in the Fountain Tire chain.

With the purchase of Chorney Tire, Fountain Tire now has 10 stores in Winnipeg and a total of 147 stores in western Canada. The changeover of the Winnipeg locations to Fountain Tire stores will be completed during the summer, the company notes.

Glenn Chorney, who started the stores with his wife, Pat, will join the Fountain Tire Store Operations Team to service Manitoba, Saskatchewan and northern Ontario.
