Team Falken Earn 1st And 3rd Finishes At Motegi Racing Super Drift Invitational

April 18, 2016

During a special drifting event held on the Verizon IndyCar weekend, Team Falken driver Matt Field took first place in the Motegi Racing Super Drift Challenge, while his Falken teammate Odi Bakchis took third.

The sold-out evening program took place both nights on the eastern end of the Long Beach street race circuit – turns 9, 10 and 11.  Friday’s action included practice and qualifying, while Saturday saw the teams compete for a $25,000 purse.

As a result of qualifying, Bakchis was first, Field second and fellow Falken driver Justin Pawlak was 9th. In the Final run, Field defeated Micheal Essa, who had beaten Bakchis during the Top 4, and took the overall win in his Drift Cave/Falken Tire Nissan S14. Bakchis earned third with his Ark Performance/Falken Tire Nissan S14.

The Motegi Racing Super Drift Challenge was held directly after the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar race at Long Beach.

“The majority of the spectators watching are exposed to drifting for the first time,” noted Jonathan Bradford, Falken Manager, Motorsports and Events.  “This is really important to all of us as we build our Formula Drift fan base as well as show the capabilities of our Falken tires.  With a victory in this invitational drift event, I think we’ve successfully demonstrated what our brand can do and introduced new fans to this incredible sport.”

The next round is scheduled for Road Atlanta, May 6-7, 2016.
