Reifen draws raves from visitors and exhibitors alike

June 15, 2002

With Reifen 2002 recently completed and the 15,200 visitors from more than 80 countries having returned home, we thought we'd report on the makeup of the show.

The Reifen international tire trade fair, held in Essen, Germany, showcased the latest technologies associated with all aspects of tires, retreading, wheels and chassis technology.

"Everything of standing and reputation in this business was represented in Essen," says Peter Seher, the new president of Bundesverband Reifenhandel und Vulkaniseur-Handwerk (Federal Association of the Tire Trade and the Vulcanizers' Skilled Trade).

There were 385 exhibitors from more than 30 countries on hand. The exhibitors in the United States Pavilion included Myers Tire Supply Co., Robbins LLC, Bruno Wessel Inc., Zisser Tire, ESCO Equipment Supply Co., Lucy's Tire and the Tire Association of North America/International Tire & Rubber Association.

Nearly half of the exhibitors were able to wrap up direct deals at the fair, and every fourth visitor placed an order at the fair, according to a Reifen show spokesperson.

Ninety percent of the visitors said they intend to attend the fair again in two years. The 23rd Reifen show will be held May 19-22, 2004. More than 90% of the exhibitors who travelled to the fair also said they would return.
