At its dealer meeting last October, Falken Tire Corp. gave some of its dealers a sneak peek at four new tires. Five months later, they are ready to be launched.
The company, which has been renamed Sumitomo Rubber North America Inc. since Jan. 1, 2016, is in the middle of a weeks-long ride-and-drive in Phoenix, Ariz., for tire dealers across the country. The four tires being introduced are: WildPeak A/T3W, WildPeak M/T, Sincera SN250 A/S (a performance touring tire) and Azenis FK450 A/S (an ultra-high performance all-season tire).
The original story ("Falken Rolls Out 4 New Tires; 8 More to Come") broke Oct. 27 during the World Series (Falken is the official tire of Major League Baseball).
Here is the first of four additional reports on the tires by MTD Editor Bob Ulrich, starting with the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W, an all-terrain tire engineered "for adventure, any time and in any weather," according to Sumitomo. It follows the Wildpeak A/T01 and A/T02, although it is not a "next generation tire," which is why it is not named A/T03. It is a whole new animal.
Thanks to an optimized tread design and a silica tread compound, the A/T3W "excells in three areas: wear, winter and wet performance." The tire also features the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol.
The Wildpeak A/T3W is available in 54 LT and P-metric sizes.
