More than 70,000 people watched the Boston College Eagles defeat North Carolina´s Tar Heels 37-24 in the third annual Continental Tire Bowl yesterday. The game, played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., also was telecast on ESPN2.

The Continental Tire Bowl averaged more than 62,000 fans over its first two years.

The game marked the fulfillment of Continental´s three-year obligation to host the bowl game. The tiremaker has not announced whether or not it will continue its association with the game´s owner and operator, Raycom Sports.

In addition to sponsoring the bowl game, Continental Tire North America Inc. teamed with American Car Care Centers (ACCC) to sponsor a football toss during half time. The contest involved trying to throw a football through -- what else? -- a Continental tire.

Leading up to the game, ACCC held drawings to pick customers and tire dealers to compete in the event.

The Continental Tire Bowl pits a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference against a team from the Big East Conference. Boston College finished the year 9-3. North Carolina ended 6-6.
