Michelin recalls 4,000 truck tires

Dec. 23, 2004

Michelin Americas Truck Tires (MATT) has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling a maximum of 4,000 Michelin XDE M/S size 10R22.5 (Load Range F and G) commercial truck tires after its quality control system alerted the company to a condition that could possibly result in rapid air loss.

This recall involves commercial truck tires only and has no impact on any other Michelin tires.

This decision was taken after a tire was inspected and did not meet Michelin quality standards. To date, there have been no accidents or injuries reported and no property damage claims filed.

The recalled tires were produced at various periods during DOT weeks 21 through 43 (May-October 2004) at Michelin´s Ballymena plant in Northern Ireland. These tires are typically used on the drive axle of a variety of commercial vehicles in the United States and Canada.

The affected tires´ DOT markings begin with HJ and end with 2104 through 4304.

A division of Michelin North America Inc., MATT will be replacing all potentially affected tires produced during the same period in a comprehensive commitment to retrieve from the market any tire that does not meet Michelin quality standards.
