Michelin North America Inc. (MNA) and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. continue to pursue their wide-base truck tire programs.

The Michelin X One XZU S wide-base tire was officially rolled out last week. It is available in size 455/55R22.5 and targets trucks that operate in urban areas, including waste haulers.

The X One XZU S is the first wide-base tire designed specifically for use on such vehicles, according to MNA officials.

Goodyear plans to introduce its G394 SST super single trailer tire during the first half of 2005. Its G392 SSD drive counterpart will come on-line during the second half of the year.

"We┬┤ve been running these tires for a long time in test fleets," Al Cohn, Goodyear technical marketing manager, told moderntiredealer.com this afternoon.
