SEMA, DAY THREE: TIA, RMA announce policy agenda

Nov. 4, 2004

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) and the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) have pledged to work together on several issues facing the domestic tire industry.

The two groups have come up with a five-point, cooperative agenda. Issues to be addressed include:

* compliance with the TREAD (Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation) Act;

* rolling resistance;

* tire service life;

* tire pressure monitoring system training;

* annual motor vehicle inspections.

TIA and the RMA also have pledged to work toward an industry consensus regarding tire service life.

"No scientific data exists that points to a specific date-certain for removing tires from service," says RMA CEO and President Donald Shea.
