SEMA, DAY ONE: Bridgestone forecasts nearly $22 billion in sales

Bridgestone Corp. expects to end 2004 with $21.8 billion in sales for the year, Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc. Chairman and CEO Mark Emkes told dealers this morning at the company´s annual dealer meeting.

Bridgestone is forecasting operating income of $1.7 billion this year, he says.

The business environment in North America "remains challenging." Bridgestone´s North American operation "is not yet profitable."

However, "sales to our dealer channel in North America have increased by one million units," according to Emkes. "I´m encouraged by the gains we´ve made."
