Oct. 7, 2004

Bridgestone Corp. will build a $94.3 million steel cord plant in Shenyang, China, beginning this month. The facility will produce steel cord for truck and bus radial tires.

The plant, located in China´s Liaoning Province, will be operated by a wholly-owned Bridgestone subsidiary, Bridgestone (Shenyang) Steel Cord Co. Ltd., under the direction of President Yozo Nagai.

According to Bridgestone, the plant´s daily production capacity will reach 70 tons by the end of 2007. Most of the steel cord production is targeted for Bridgestone´s radial truck and bus tire plant, also in Shenyang.

The plant is Bridgestone´s fourth in China. It recently opened a radial passenger tire plant in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China. The plant, which operates as Bridgestone (Wuxi) Tire Co. Ltd., is Bridgestone´s third tire plant in China.

The $99 million Wuxi facility is the first tire plant the company has built in China; Bridgestone acquired plants that produce radial passenger tires in Tianjin and the aforementioned radial truck and bus tire plant in Shenyang.
