TIA unwavering in support of Right to Repair Act

Sept. 22, 2004

The Right to Repair Act remains one of the Tire Industry Association´s (TIA) top legislative priorities.

"At this time, passage of the Right to Repair Act could not be more important to our members," says TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield.

The Right to Repair Act mandates that automobile manufacturers allow affordable access to all service information for new vehicles.

"The Right to Repair Act will ensure that our dealers can get the information they need from original equipment manufacturers."

Automobile manufacturers´ support of the controversial legislation "makes no sense," according to Littlefield.

"If these manufacturers plan to keep their end of the agreement and make information accessible and affordable to independent service providers, this legislation only backs up their commitment to the automotive service industry. The fact that these manufacturers oppose this legislation causes TIA to question their commitment to the agreement and forces us to keep supporting the legislation."

TIA is urging members of Congress to support the Right to Repair Act.
