New chairman outlines objectives for ACCC

Sept. 9, 2004

John Boyle, president of Englewood Tire Distributors, has a number of objectives he would like to accomplish as the new chairman of American Car Care Centers (ACCC).

He says he wants to:

* build and expand relationships with members, dealers and suppliers;

* invigorate membership at all levels as a marketing group (i.e., member distributor, master retailer and dealers); and

* continue to add value to the programs as one organization with one direction.

Boyle replaced Howard Stein, former president of Target Tire Inc., who stepped down as chairman following the sale of Target to American Tire Distributors. He was nominated by the ACCC board after serving as chairman of ACCC´s Product Committee for the last two years.

"We’ve been part of the ACCC program since 2001," says Boyle. "The ACCC program has been a huge benefit to our business.

"The New York market is a tough place to do business. The emphasis is always on price, and the ACCC program has provided us a solid value-added benefit that gives us an advantage when competing in our market. It provides us the tools that dealers need to compete and truly helps them level the playing field with the large retailers."

Englewood Tire Distributors (ETD), based in Lyndhurst, N.J., has three distribution centers servicing New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. Its supplies 72 ACCC dealers.

With 13 locations, ETD is the 85th largest independent tire store chain in North America, according to Modern Tire Dealer research. Last year, ETD recorded sales of $104 million.

ACCC, based in Memphis, Tenn., has 18 member distributors and 1,104 independent dealer locations in 44 states.
