Michelin to sponsor golf tournament

Michelin North America Inc. has become the title sponsor of the Las Vegas Founders Club´s PGA TOUR tournament to be held Oct. 4-10, 2004.

The event has been renamed the Michelin Championship at Las Vegas, and the company has an option to extend the relationship through 2006.

The tournament will be held on three courses: at the Tournament Players Club at The Canyons, Bear´s Best, and at the home course where all weekend play will be conducted, the Tournament Players Club at Summerlin. Australian Stuart Appleby is the defending champion.

"Michelin is proud to sponsor the Michelin Championship at Las Vegas as part of our support of deserving charities in more than 215 communities throughout the United States," said John Tully, Michelin´s director of community relations. "Working together with consumers, tire dealers and Michelin employees, we know we can help the Las Vegas community find a better way forward."

The Las Vegas Founders Golf Foundation and its charitable foundation, the Las Vegas Founders Gold Foundation, have contributed in excess of $10 million to local charities over the years from its operation of golf events for the PGA TOUR, Champions TOUR, UNLV Rebels men´s golf team, UNLV Rebels women’s golf team, and the American Junior Golf Association.

Proceeds of these events have gone to such local community organizations as Boys and Girls Club of Las Vegas, The First Tee of Southern Nevada, Opportunity Village, Las Vegas History Foundation, Classroom on Wheels, Boy Scouts of America, Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer, Variety -– Children’s Charity, and the UNLV men´s and women´s golf programs.
