Michelin North America Inc.'s Michelin Retread Technologies Inc. (MTRI) plant in Covington, Ga., will see its production output doubled, marking the facility's first expansion since it opened in 1999.

"We are doubling the volume, but more importantly, we are adding high technology volume," says John Yarbro, who manages the plant.

"This expansion is necessary to meet the demand for additional tread volume, but also will allow us to remain in step with our new tire technology," including products like co-extruded rubber and extra wide treads for the Michelin X One wide base truck tire, among others.

The Covington facility produces pre-mold treads for MRTI franchisees and retread shops throughout North America.
