Mountain View pegs end of month opening for latest store

June 10, 2004

Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based Mountain View Tire's newest store -- a retail outlet in Camarillo, Calif. -- will open in late June, says Mountain View Vice President Chris Mitsos.

The new outlet will bring Mountain View's total number of stores up to 27, making it the 40th largest independent tire store chain in North America, according to Modern Tire Dealer data.

"We have four (new stores) at various stages of construction," says Mitsos, all of them in the southern California area.

In January 2003, Mountain View sold 17 Superior Tire outlets in the Las Vegas, Nev., area to Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and TBC Corp., who split them up.

Goodyear acquired nine outlets as part of the deal and eventually closed one of them; TBC turned its eight Superior Tire outlets into Big O Tires Inc. franchise locations.

Mountain View -- which sells Goodyear, Dunlop and Republic brand tires -- achieved $35 million in sales last year.
