Pirelli wins RMA safety award -- again

For the second year in a row, Pirelli Tire North America has received the Safety and Health Improvement Program (SHIP) "Excellence" award from the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA).

There are two categories of awards, both measured by the incidence rate for lost workday cases:

1. For the "Excellence" award, a plant must achieve an incidence rate 75% better than the average achieved by plants that provided data to RMA.

2. For the "Improvement" award, a plant has to achieve an incidence rate that is both 10% better than its rate the previous year, and the same or better than the RMA average.

Pirelli's MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotized System) tire plant topped close to 200 plants with zero incidents.

"This is really incredible. Achieving a perfect score is extremely rare. To do it two years in a row is truly a testament not only to the manner in which Pirelli has designed safety into every aspect of our MIRS plant

operations in Rome (Ga.), but also to the safety consciousness of our workforce," said Guy Mannino, CEO and president of Pirelli Tire North America.

The RMA first began honoring companies with its SHIP awards in 1981.
