Dayton plant fire extinguished

March 17, 2004

Operations are back to normal at Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire LLC's (BFNT) Dayton Tire plant in Oklahoma City, Okla., following a minor fire that broke out in the facility's off-site mixing area yesterday.

Nobody was injured in the small blaze, which was caused by a fan coming loose and hitting a piece of sheet metal, causing a spark that ignited.

The Dayton plant's mixing area is located outside the manufacturing facility's walls, according to a BFNT spokesperson.

"We were back up and running at 100% within a few hours."

This is the second fire at a BFNT plant in one week.

This past Saturday, a fire broke out at the company's Aiken County, S.C., factory, which shut one-third of the plant down for slightly more than a day.
