Rubber Manufacturers Association predicts tread rubber shipment growth in 2002

Shipments of tread rubber used to manufacture retreaded tires will grow 2.2% this year over 2001 numbers, according to the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA).

The increase represents 306,000 additional retreaded tires, say RMA officials.

Tread rubber shipments are expected to grow 1.8% per year between 2002 and 2007.

An estimated 22 million retreaded passenger, light truck, truck and OTR tires were produced in 2001, according to Modern Tire Dealer data. Of that total, approximately 15.7 million truck, 5.3 million light truck, 575,000 passenger and 453,000 OTR units were made.
